High specific stiffness and high specific strength at simultaneously low specific density are favourable for structural composite applications in space. AAC had worked in several ESA projects together with partner on the improvement of their Rapid Hot Pressing and 3-Printing Plasma torch process parameter to develop small and large new composite materials components based on Titanium or Aluminum enhanced by particles, whiskers, short and long fibres. Those composite materials with improved mechanical properties are expected to be applied in future missions for Rocker bogies, Suspension arms, Struts, Wheel spokes, or Deployment arms.
Due to the testing capabilities at AAC, some new composite materials have been also exposed even to simulated Mars environmental conditions for Robotic Mars Exploration missions.
